kolkata: the congress party is a ship without moorings. "the captain of the ship is trying to pilot it with a motor car licence," said bjp president jana krishnamurthy on friday. the bjp president was speaking to newspersons in kolkata, on his way back to delhi from imphal after a round of hectic election campaign in the north-eastern state. krishnamurthy also argued that the results of up elections will not be a mandate on the centre.
"it is being made out in certain quarters that up will decide the fate of the centre. success or failure in up will not affect the centre," the bjp president said. speaking at length on his party''s electoral prospects in uttar pradesh, the bjp national president said that the bjp and its allies were confident of sweeping the forthcoming elections in the state. "there is no state-level political party in uttar pradesh that can stand before the bjp," krishnamurthy said, adding that mulayam singh yadav''s samajwadi party may have pockets of influence. but it was obvious from the bjp president''s remarks that the congress was proving to be a headache for the party. referring repeatedly to the congress, the bjp president said that the multi-corner contests in up will eventually work in his party''s favour. "it is the performance of the state government and bjp''s organisational strength that will determine the outcome of the elections. all other issues will be incidental," the bjp president said, suggesting that the babri masjid issue may not come to the fore during the campaing. speaking on nda''s prospects in punjab, krishnamurthy said that the anti-incumbancy wave had ebbed to some extent in the last 15 days. the congress in punjab will find it difficult as rebel candidates are in the fray in at least 26 constituencies.
